Lecture “European burden of CKD in a global perspective” at the European Renal Association Congress in Milan

Boris Bikbov, Senior Researcher at the Scientific-Tools.Org, was delighted to accept the invitation of the Organizing Committee of the 60th European Renal Association Congress, and give a talk “European burden of CKD in a global perspective”. It was an amazing event located in the heart of the Italian Lombardy region and attracted almost 10,000 registered participants from 123 countries. The ERA Annual Congress aimed to share knowledge to improve kidney disease management further and unites the presentation of cutting-edge research with a broad view of the most relevant fields in the prevention, detection, and treatment of kidney disease.

The lecture presented major findings of chronic kidney disease (CKD) epidemiology based on the Global Burden of Disease, Risk Factors and Injuries (GBD) Study estimates. It attracted a lot of attention from the audience and is available at the ERA Congress website. Boris Bikbov has actively contributed to the GBD Study since 2007, and highlighted a brief history of global CKD evaluation, prevalence and mortality metrics for 45 countries of the European region, and novel metrics proposed by the GBD for a comprehensive estimation of disease burden.
